When my father passed away from pancreatic cancer, we had time to organize his financial documents, but I soon realized that accessing his accounts would not be as straightforward as I had assumed. Despite presenting the necessary documents and identification at various financial institutions, I didn't simply walk out with a check. Instead, I faced months of navigating through slow, inefficient systems, which brought a great deal of frustration and aggravation.
Fast forward to today, and I am the co-founder of Ribbon, a company dedicated to transforming this experience for others. Our mission at Ribbon is to help financial institutions provide a better, smoother process for inheritors who need to access inherited assets.
The urgency for such a service is clear. As we witness a generational wealth transfer of unprecedented magnitude, literally billions of dollars are moving out of traditional financial institutions. Most inheritors are frustrated by the cumbersome and lengthy processes at their FIs and choose to take their inheritances elsewhere.
